ocn.007 Coral Bleaching Monitoring

Areas where bleaching thermal stress satisfies specific criteria based on HotSpot and Degree Heating Week (DHW) values. HotSpots measure the magnitude of daily thermal stress that can lead to coral bleaching. Degree Heating Weeks indicate duration and magnitude of thermal stress (one DHW is equal to one week of sea surface temperature 1 degree Celsius (°C) warmer than the historical average for the warmest month of the year).

Past Week (as of October 10, 2026) Bleaching Alert Area (7-Day Maximum)

Measures the magnitude of daily thermal stress that can lead to coral bleaching. Negative values are not shown.

October 10, 2026 HotSpots (°C)

Indicates the duration and magnitude of thermal stress. One Degree Heating Week (DHW) is equal to one week of Sea Surface Temperature (SST) 1 degree Celsius (°C) warmer than the historical average for the warmest month of the year. Negative values are not shown.

Past 12 Weeks (as of October 10, 2026) Degree Heating Weeks (DHW)

Night-time temperature of ocean at surface.

October 10, 2026 Sea Surface Temperature (°C)

Difference between the daily sea surface temperature and the corresponding daily sea surface temperature historical record.

October 10, 2026 Sea Surface Temperature Anomalies (°C)

Pace and direction of the sea surface temperature variation, and thus coral bleaching heat stress, if present, over the past seven days.
